STALLION PERFORMANCE TEST FOR KNN OF DENMARK **

KNN KNABSTRUPPER PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

In Denmark the performance assessment of the Knabstrupper is organised and run by a central organisation LU (Landsudvalget for Heste). LU runs the central registration and performance assessment for a number of studbooks including the Knabstrupper and the Trakehner, but not Danish Warmblood which has its own organization.

The performance assessment is judged by a technical committee consisting of capable and impartial people as well as a breed representative for each breed put forward for the assessment. The technical committee ensures the correct planning and execution and has the final say in case of any doubts whether all elements of the assessment have been completed.

Each breed society can set their own pass level as well as decide whether a horse that has failed any part of the assessment will be allowed to enter and retry the test the following year.

The test consists of 5 parts all taking place on the same day and without prior training:

  1. Paces
  2. Jumping
  3. Endurance
  4. Willingness
  5. Veterinary control

 JUDGING AND CALCULATION OF SCORES

All 5 parts of the test are marked on a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the maximum score.  Each part holds equal weight.  Scores reached must be 50% of total possible points or above for all disciplines apart from Endurance, where at least 70% must be reached.

1. PACES
The paces are judged by a team of 3 people, one breed specialist and two with particular knowledge of riding and paces. The horse is to complete exercises at Novice level under the instruction of the judges. Marks are given for walk, trot, canter and attentiveness to rider.

2. JUMPING
This part is assessed by two judges with particular knowledge of jumping.  The test is both under rider as well as loose jumping. The final number of times the track needs to be completed and the number of obstacles to be jumped is decided by the judge.  Marks are given for the horse’s jumping technique as well as behaviour and attentiveness to the rider.  The max height of jumps is 100cm.

3. ENDURANCE

The distance that needs to be covered for the ridden endurance by pace and maximum time are:

Walk: Distance 500 meters @ 100 meters/minute

Trot: Distance 2500 meters @ 250 meters/minute

Canter: Distance 1000 meters @ 500 meters/minute

Max score is 10 points, with 0.1 point deduction for every second over maximum allowed time.

There is a vetting immediately after the endurance test assessing the ability to regenerate/recover with marks out of 10.

4.WILLINGNESS

The mark for willingness is based on already given scores in part 1-3,  including a mark for temperament during vetting.

5. VETERINARY CONTROL
A vetting is conducted before the commencement of the assessment as well as after the endurance assessment.  Scores are given for regeneration ability and temperament.  The general health check is a pass or fail.

OVERALL SCORE

The overall score for stallions must be 700 or above.  No part score can be below 5.

Since 1990 it has also been possible to put mares and geldings forward for the assessment.  The overall score for these must not be below 650.
