  UKA 2008

In March 2008 the UKA is the defra approved PIO (passport issuing organisation) and Stud Book holders for Knabstruppers in the UK under eu Commission Decision 92/353/EEC

Registered in March 2006, the UKA was set up by Knabstrupper owners and breeders in the UK to provide a meeting place, support and general information point for the rare and beautiful Knabstrupper.  We hope you enjoy this site and please contact us if you would like to join us or require any help or information about this rare breed.  To join the UKA please contact our membership secretary  Gill Pailor or visit the   Membership Page on this web site.

Between us we have had Knabstruppers for several years and the organisation includes owners with mares, stallions, young stock and geldings and a variety of the different bloodlines available in the breed today.  Some are being ridden for pleasure, some in unaffiliated or affiliated competition - eventing, jumping and dressage.  One thing that all our members have in common is a  love for the breed.  We offer a range of services including registering foals and horses, now issuing and updating passports and help for new or existing owners.  As others have either imported, bred or bought Knabstruppers in the UK, as individuals we have supported other owners who wanted information or help. What was missing in the UK was any organisation to provide these services and a central meeting point for other UK owners.   Hence the birth of the UKA in 2006.

In 2005 we worked together with some other UK owners to set up and run the first UK KNN grading in Leicestershire and details of that can be seen either on the UK grading site @ www.knabstruppergrading.co.uk or on the KNN (eu parent breed society) site Click Here and in 2007 also ran the first UK grading for the well known and respected German Society the ZfdP (Zuchtverband fur Deutche Pferde).  In 2008 we hope to work with both the KNN and ZfdP for the grading of Knabstruppers by these organisations in the UK.

This was a starting point and we welcome any other enthusiasts, owners and breeders who have an interest in the Knabstrupper either as a breed, for competition, riding for pleasure or just out of interest.

In 2007 the UKA saw it's members achieving great successes with their Knabs,
ranging from involvement in the FEI World Para Championships, competing at British
Dressage Nationals, Regionals and Area Festivals, success at riding club competitions
and gaining premium awards at grading days. The UKA also sponsored a Knabstrupper
ring at the Eastern Appaloosa show and were very privileged to have a highly respected
Danish Knabstrupper judge come to the UK to judge the classes.

In 2008 we have now formally been recognised by defra as the PIO/eu approved organisation for Knabstrupper registration in the UK and look forward to further involvement  with UK Knabstrupper owners and breeders.  The UKA continues to extend a warm welcome to everyone who owns, breeds or has an interest in this wondeful breed.
